The largest Internet Exchange in Europe is situated in Amsterdam (AMS-IX). PLANT Amsterdam houses its network inside the Amsterdam Science Park, which is directly linked to this European internet backbone.
An Internet Exchange is a connectivity point where various networks and service providers come together and interconnect with each other. Our offices and server-rooms are situated literally metres from the AMS-IX peering point. A location like this has tremendous advantages. We have incredibly short response times from our administrators, high network speed, increased reliability and better quality in terms of our redundant fibre internet link. In addition to this, we have a large amount of bandwidth available to us. The advantage of this bandwidth is that many visitors can be accommodated simultaneously. In a nutshell, with our 1GBit link, we are equipped to host the most frequently visited sites with ease. Our server room is access controlled, secured and air conditioned.
As SAIX supplies raw bandwidth to service providers in South Africa, we have effectively gone directly to the source and cut out any middle men. We're not carrying any unnecessary costs through to our clients, and no third party failures can interfere with our service provision. We're, therefore, constantly in control and informed.
As with the Amsterdam server room, the South African server room is access controlled, secured and air conditioned. We allow our clients to make use of our server room facility, although we require compliance with the 19" specifications.
